Overlooking the Holy Loch and on the edge of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park - Old Kilmun House is surrounded by 2 acres of stunning gardens and is a 4 star, grade A listed historic house boasting eight bedrooms with four big living rooms (drawing room, dining room, games room with ĺ sized snooker table and a TV room) and a cosy kitchen breakfast room with an Aga. The house can sleep up to 18 but we prefer to limit adult occupancy to 14 or 16.
The house itself dates back to the 17th century and was originally built by the Duke of Argyll. (Jamie Oliver stayed recently when filming his Around Britain TV series. He was filmed cooking and entertaining in the house, using the fabulous local produce for which Argyll is becoming world-famous.)
The house has been awarded Visit Scotlandís 4 Star Quality Rating for Excellence which reflects the fact that the house has real character as well as great facilities. We boast a sauna, a jacuzzi style bath, table football, darts, and a variety of board games, as well as full Sky TV. Outside there is a football goal, trampoline and croquet set.
The table in the dining room seats 16 and this lovely wood panelled dining room also has a large open fire. The drawing room also boasts an open fire with plenty of comfy seating. The snooker room which is popular with old and young alike leads out to the garden whilst a separate games room next door offers table football and darts. Also located on the same floor is a snug with Sky TV and DVD.
Upstairs on the first floor four of the double bedrooms have wonderful views of the Holy Loch and high quality beds with crisp Egyptian cotton linen and fluffy towels give the bedrooms a luxurious feel. At the very top of the house are two triple rooms - a pretty double room facing the woodlands of Kilmun Arboretum, and a very small bunk room just for children. Two beautifully styled bathrooms and a wc can be found upstairs and there is also a shower room on the ground floor.
The property well positioned for sight-seeing around the Cowal peninsula which has some of the most magnificent scenery in Scotland and is just ten minutes from the delightful market town of Dunoon.
Within 10 minutes of the house are plenty of outdoor activities including golf courses, pony trekking, quad-biking, clay-pigeon shooting, an outdoor adventure centre and a sailing school and water sports tuition centre.
We can also provide catering, pampering sessions from local beauticians and holistic therapists and work out sessions from personal trainers. Entertainment from an award-winning local theatre company can be organised during your stay.
