Property Details

The White House is a 4-storey, historic property that features a mix of original characteristics and contemporary living. Situated in the picturesque market town of Aylsham, there are a variety of pubs, restaurants, tea rooms and independent shops all within walking distance of this fabulous holiday cottage. The White House is also centrally located between Norwich, the North Norfolk coast, and the Norfolk Broads, making it an ideal base from which to explore a variety of inland and coastal attractions.

Dating back to 1650, The White House was formerly owned by the Duchy of Lancaster and the property has enjoyed a diverse history, having housed various members of the gentry over the years. More recently, The White House has been lovingly refurbished by its current owners and today provides guests with a wonderful environment in which to celebrate special occasions and share memorable holidays.

There are 5 bedrooms, sleeping up to a total of 12 guests. Bedroom #1 has a super king size bed plus en suite shower room; bedroom #2 has a king size bed plus en suite shower room; bedroom #3 has 2 single beds; bedroom #4 has a king size bed; and bedroom #5 has a king size bed, a single bed plus an optional pull-out trundle bed for a 12th guest. All bedrooms have 200 thread white linen, allergy free pillows, plus a TV.

The family bathroom features a freestanding bath, shower cubicle, bidet, and toilet. There are also 2 en suite shower rooms plus 2 separate WCs.

The bright, dual aspect sitting room has 3 large sofas, an occasional chair, ornate fireplace, 54” TV with Freeview, DVD player, radio and CD player, plus smart speaker.

The basement games room features table tennis, a snooker table, darts, and table football.

The fully equipped kitchen includes 2 electric ovens, hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, plus Aga range cooker (Nov – Apr).

The attractive dining room, with beamed ceiling and wood burning stove, has a main table that seats 8 plus another table and chairs for a further 4 guests. Breakfast and coffee can also be enjoyed in the morning room, overlooking the courtyard.

There is a secluded, walled courtyard with outdoor furniture and BBQ as well as an enclosed garden which is laid to lawn.

A cot, high chair, baby monitor and baby gate are available (to be booked in advance).

A maximum of 2 dogs are accepted (to be booked in advance). Dogs must be house-trained and well-behaved and they are not allowed on the furniture or upstairs in the property. Pet fee: £40.

On street parking is available outside the property.

Hot tub, beautician, private chef – please ask for details.

In addition to its range of independent and high street shops, Aylsham is also host to a monthly farmers’ market as well as The Aylsham Show, a traditional agricultural event which is held annually on August Bank Holiday Monday.

Outdoor enthusiasts will not be disappointed either: just half a mile from The White House is the Bure Valley Path, Weaver’s Way, and Marriott’s Way, where walking and cycling adventures await you over rolling farmland, across historic country estates, and along disused railways.

The Blickling Estate (National Trust), with its magnificent Jacobean house and gardens, is also just 1.5 miles away. This fabulous Norfolk residence is home to one of history’s most famous phantoms, Anne Boleyn, and her headless ghost is said to return each year on May 19th, the anniversary of her execution.

When staying at The White House, there is no need for anyone to be the designated driver as there is a regular bus service from Aylsham to Norwich, as well as to the traditional seaside towns of Cromer and Sheringham, and the Georgian town of Holt. The Bure Valley Railway also offers steam train journeys from Aylsham to Wroxham, where you can join an organised boat tour on the Norfolk Broads or hire a day launch.

At the end of each fun-filled day, The White House provides a delightful sanctuary where you can relax with family and friends, either outside under the stars or inside in front of the fire, before heading upstairs for a good night’s sleep in one of the well-appointed bedrooms.
