A spacious Victorian Country House just 3 miles from the vibrant seaside town of Weymouth. Set in parkland and neighbouring the meadows and ancient woodland of the Lorton Valley nature reserves, the house occupies a tranquil, green oasis - yet is close to the buzz of one of the south coast’s most popular resorts.
The vibe is 'elegant yet relaxed' and the house makes the perfect retreat after a busy day on the beach or a night on the tiles. High windows that let the light flood in, a grand entrance hall, stylishly furnished rooms and log fires all lend themselves to the air of genteel, country comfort. The formal dining room seats 20 and is a wonderful room for celebrations. The spacious kitchen/diner boasts an Aga along with an electric oven / hob and is perfect for more casual meals. The drawing room with its comfy sofas, open fire and French windows that open out onto the garden, is a lovely space for lazy evenings in. For tournament nights, head to the cellar where you will find a full sized billiard table.
Outside there are 16 acres to explore. There are winding woodland trails and fabulous views across the meadows and down to the sea. The lawns are perfect for arranging an archery contest, zorbing or even an old fashioned ‘school sports day’.
Leave the car behind and take the footpath from the grounds all the way to the coast. Join the Legacy Trail and which links the Lorton Valley Nature Park all the way to the windswept grasslands and the tumbling limestone cliffs of Portland Bill.
Weymouth beach has 3 miles of golden sand and hosts all the traditional seaside delights: donkey rides, ice cream and Punch and Judy shows. Head to the harbour for a spot of crabbing or even hire a fishing charter. There are plenty of opportunities for water sports; try your hand at sailing, explore the coast by kayak or simply hire a pedalo and peddle around the shallows.
For an unparalleled bird’s eye view of the coast, The Jurassic Skyline viewing tower takes you 174ft above the resort and slowly rotates to give you 360 degrees of uninterrupted panoramic vistas. For something completely different, why take the challenge of the Escape Dungeons, underneath the Esplanade - solve the clues and hidden messages to escape!
The town has a lively cultural life with plenty of live music, festivals and events held throughout the year. In the evening the bustling sea front bars and cafes are the places to be and be seen.
If you want to take things easy, amble round Brewers Quay – the local arts, crafts and antiques emporium. Why not book a treatment in one of the town’s day spas or for the ultimate in no-fuss pampering, arrange for a therapist to visit the house?
