Heckbarley
Heckbarley cottage lies in Ennerdale village on the quieter western side of the Lake District National Park. The cottage is just 1 mile from tranquil Ennerdale Water, and enjoys views of the fells. The rear outlook is across a meadow, where horses often graze, to the River Ehen. There are 4 bedrooms, accommodating up to 9 (or 10 if one hen sleeps on the z-bed!) As well as the main bathroom, the master bedroom is ensuite, and there’s also a downstairs toilet. The lounge has a mixed fuel burning stove for cosy nights in and the TV has the full SKY package so you can settle down to enjoy a girly movie. (There’s also a DVD player and CD player). There’s a well-equipped kitchen with all the mod cons if you wish to eat in, and a separate dining room. Alternatively there are two pubs in the village, serving good food for that celebratory evening out - one is literally a 100m saunter down the road and the other is only a 5 minute walk away. The conservatory opens onto an enclosed south-facing garden with patio and BBQ. For those looking for art/ culture we recommend a visit to the Georgian market town of Cockermouth. There are numerous galleries and arts & crafts shops and you can visit Wordsworth House, the birthplace of the poet William. You could also explore some of the locations used for filming the movie ‘Miss Potter’, starring Renee Zellweger, about The Lake District’s most famous daughter Beatrix Potter - such as nearby Loweswater or the Whitehaven. For lovers….of the outdoors, the Lake District is a playground. You can walk or cycle along the shoreline of local Ennerdale lake, or don your boots for some serious hiking on the high fells. There’s a stables close by if you enjoy horse riding. If you want extreme challenges you could even ‘Go Ape!’ on treetop walkways and zip wires! We can offer more information on all these activities, and more. If the weather is fair and you want to work on your tan, there are numerous beaches along the shore of local Ennerdale lake, or it’s only a 30 minute drive to the coast at St. Bees. If you fancy some indoor pampering we can recommend a couple of Spas within a short drive. We welcome 2 or 3 night weekend bookings and 4 night midweek breaks throughout the year (except in school holidays). PRICE INFORMATIONPrices start from £450 for 2/3 days off peak in winter to £1500 over the New Year and Christmas, and £1200 for summer weeks. FACILITIES
